The site previously accommodated several three-storey flatted blocks which had proven difficult to let and suffered from various anti-social behaviour issues. Upon their demolition, East Ayrshire Council’s directive was to design a development to an affordable tenure whilst accommodating a different resident profile.
Led by Main Contractor CCG (Scotland) and MAST Architects, the masterplan solution provides one and two-bedroom bungalows designed to support elderly residents who may be affected by a range of mobility and other age-related medical needs, including dementia sufferers.
The development forms part of a strategic housebuilding partnership between the Council and CCG that has delivered ten projects and over 260 affordable homes since 2017. Each project has been supported by Arc-Tech’s in-house team of experts; Witch Road itself received assistance from our Renewables and Sprinklers Divisions with the installation of in-roof solar PV panels to each dwelling as well as sprinkler systems, with the latter served by a purpose-built pumping station that serves the entire development.
Both systems were designed by Arc-Tech and were delivered as part of a full design, supply, installation and commission service. Annual maintenance will also be provided.
Arc-Tech is currently on-site on behalf of the Council at Kilmarnock Road in Mauchline, the local authority’s first-ever, net zero-supported accommodation development, and a second project in Kilmarnock will commence later this year. Solar PV panels and sprinklers will again be installed as part of the development’s zero-emissions energy strategy.
